Vinification

All Riesling Vineyards of the estate are situated on the hills north of Langenlois, where a more mineralic soil type can be found, due to the influence of the Bohemian Massif. In a first harvesting session, all premature grapes are selected to be the base for this elegant and fruit-driven Riesling.

The grapes are harvested mostly in morning hours, when it’s still cool outside. Retaining the freshness is one of the main aims for this wine. The whole bunches are gently pressed, settled, racked and brought to fermentation in the naturally cool cellar.

Vintage 2024

We were able to complete the grape harvest on September 26, marking the earliest end of the harvest in our family history. It was not an easy year for us. After the late frost, which ultimately reduced our harvest by around 40%, the weather in Langenlois was characterized by sufficient rainfall throughout. In the vineyard, it was important to work precisely in order to counteract fungal diseases and thus further yield losses. The plants damaged by frost were also visibly weakened during the year. The early flowering and galloping vegetation already suggested an early start to the harvest, which was already at the end of August, as in the 2018 vintage. A heatwave brought us temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius again, which greatly accelerated sugar ripening and motivated us to act quickly. After two weeks of picking, the heavy rainfall throughout Austria arrived, bringing us 250 mm of rain. Fortunately, a large part of the harvest was already in the cellar. We were spared the floods and after a six-day break from harvesting, we focused on Riesling. We were able to complete the harvest within another week.
